Some Aspects of Computer Science

Information technologie have dominated almost all areas of human activity arousing popular enthusiasm and a general fascination with its abilities. However, a more detailed analysis shows that the methods are mostly based on solutions that have been already proposed several years ago.

Packed into the framework of new standards and created by fashion and advertising, they are becoming hits of out times. Of course, a durable, approximately constant technological progress is present and it supports an existing progress. Howeever, it is difficult, in contrast to the populist variety of assessments, to call it a technological revolution.

Still functioning Moore's Law can be a proper example although it faces obvious physical barriers in the development of processors. Even so, it was possible to preserve a two-year period of transition from 45nm to 32 nm, all reports indicate that the transtision to 22nm technology will take at least 10 years and probably represents an end to further miniaturization of the conventional technology.

The revolution could be made by technology based on quantum system, or organic structures. However, those technologies are still in the early stages of laboratory tests, and nothing indicates that they will be implemented over the next decade. The same situation is connectted with new computational and programming methods. While it is undeniable that we have a steady progress here and many interesting new solutions, it is far from spectacular achievements of the seventies and eighties of the previous century.

Although it may be too pessimistic assessment of the current state of IT, this indicates the need to provide strong support for research activities in the field of computer science, in particular, for basic research and the implementation of the research with high potential for the innovation. We hope that this sudy make an important contribution to such activities. It supports and promotes the efforts of scientists, especially those young that are making their first steps in research.
